"Heritage Vision 2010"

Bill Van Sant, Capital Campaign Chair                                  Jerry Phillips, BHA President

Bill Van Sant said he was pleased to accept the challenge of leading the “Heritage Vision 2010” fund drive. “Having been closely associated with BHA over the last three years, I clearly recognize the tremendous value the Heritage Association’s historical preservation activities, research and related programs contribute to the citizens, visitors and all stakeholders in the greater Bayfield area. I also realize these important contributions could be significantly increased if the organization were to pay off its debt while directing additional resources to further its work in preserving the rich heritage of the area.”   We also hope to be able to support, at least on a part time basis, a Director who can help lead the organization while linking it to local, state and federal Historical Preservation Associations.

All Officers and Directors have pledged their monetary support for this Capital Campaign to bring financial solvency to the Heritage Center operations and now we are requesting monetary support from our constituency.

The Bayfield Heritage Association, Inc. is an established IRS 501 (c) (3) Corporation which utilizes tax deductible gifts to carry out it’s Mission.  All gifts pledged to our  “Heritage Vision 2010” Capital Campaign are Tax deductible.

Realizing our “Heritage Vision 2010” Capital Campaign Goal of $450,000 will allow us to:

  • Retire the Construction Loan so the funds raised on an annual basis can be utilized to expand the operation of the Bayfield Heritage Center and pay for permanent staff to advance the mission of the Bayfield Heritage Association.

  • Build an endowment fund which will provide a constant income stream to support and expand the educational programs, exhibits and research activities at the Bayfield Heritage Center.

  • Complete the necessary construction and furnishing of the Research and Archive/Collection storage areas in the lower level of the Heritage Center.

  • Coordinate our Museum software system, which catalogs all the holdings of the Bayfield Heritage Association, with the Wisconsin Historical Society and other local societies so that exhibits, research, programs and educational activities can be shared and allow our access to the archives and collections of many other museums and research facilities throughout the United States.

        BHA Capital Campaign Update

Since the Bayfield Heritage Association Capital Campaign was launched in October of 2008 it has generated over $270,000 in donations and pledges toward our goal of $450,000.Within the first 10 days of the kickoff of the campaign $117,000 of the amount was pledged by the 14 members of the BHA Board of DirectorsAn additional $29,000 was given by BHA members and supporters. The final contribution in 2008 was a $75,000 gift/pledge from R. Drake Pike, the great grandson of Captain Robinson Derling Pike, one of Bayfield’s founders.   Mr. Pike’s contribution will grant him “naming rights” to a section of the Bayfield Heritage Center and he has chosen to have the research center complex named after his great grandfather.

                  R. Drake Pike

“Naming rights” for rooms and for the annual Heritage Center Lecture Series are still available.  The rooms are main Museum Exhibits room, where long term exhibits are placed, and the Special Exhibits Room, where the Black-Nourse paintings were displayed in 2008.   Please contact Bill Van Sant for the details on how a tax deductable donation can honor an individual or family by having a room in the Heritage Center named after them.

Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated to help us fulfill our “Heritage Vision 2010” goal by the year 2010, so the Bayfield Heritage Association, Inc. can continue to preserve the history of the greater Bayfield area while providing educational and entertaining programming to residents and tourists alike in the coming years.

Please join the volunteers of the Bayfield Heritage Association with your donation and/or pledge of financial support for the Bayfield Heritage Center, its programs and activities in the museum, research and educational areas which highlight the rich history of our area.
